Who We Are

The Asian Business Students Association (ABSA) is one of the largest and most prestigious organizations at The University of Texas at Austin, with over 300 members a year. Our purpose is to develop Asian Americans as successful leaders in the professional world.

ABSA is built upon the dedication of hard-working members and generous partners. With the help of our partners, we prepare our members for success in the corporate world by providing insightful resources, creating exposure to a wide array of industries, and building strategic partnerships with leading firms. We offer over 150 events every year in the hopes of creating well-rounded business leaders, establishing a close-knit family, and making a difference in the community.

Our Three Pillars

  • ABSA holds numerous professional events throughout the year that foster the professional development of members. These events and biweekly General Meetings provide opportunities for members and companies to create and sustain long-lasting relationships.

    • Spring Case Competition*

ABSA Spring Case Competition simulates a real-world consulting scenario that challenges students to think strategically. The primary partner provides the case, and students work in teams of four to create a solution. A panel of judges—company representatives, professors, and alumni—evaluate final presentations. The competition awards cash prizes and provides all participants with opportunities to network, develop an analytical mindset, and improve presentation skills.

    • Company Field Trips*

ABSA organizes Company Field Trips for members to explore companies of interest. These trips help members build professional networks and experience company culture firsthand. Past trips have included visits to firms in Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Boston, and New York.

    • Fall Networking Reception*

Our Fall Networking Reception (FNR) offers students the opportunity to network with corporate partners in an intimate setting. Held directly after the McCombs Career Expo, FNR allows students to solidify connections and have deeper conversations. Corporate partners can discuss opportunities with a large number of students in a casual environment.

    • Startup Simulator*

Startup Simulator challenges students to create a startup idea addressing a real-world issue. With mentorship from past participants and upperclassmen, teams develop prototypes and pitch to judges—company representatives, professors, and alumni. This event helps students collaborate, think critically, and present professionally.

    • Broaden Your Network*

This event allows students to network with corporate partners through activities planned around a theme. This casual networking dinner challenges formal networking norms and helps company reps connect with interested underclassmen in a more relaxed setting.

    • Leadership Summit*

Offers corporate partners the chance to host exclusive workshops, case challenges, or hackathons for a select group of talented students at their office. This focused event fosters hands-on learning, direct engagement, and meaningful connections between students and company representatives.

    • Mentorship Program

The Mentorship Program gives aspiring individuals the opportunity to become familiar with the corporate world through one-on-one interaction with working professionals. Mentees are paired with upperclassmen in ABSA to seek career advice. Specific goals and suggested topics guide the program. Mentees gain insight into various majors and career paths, while mentors provide guidance that extends beyond their time at UT.

  • ABSA also strives to develop soft skills that cannot be taught in class. Through our team-oriented and familial culture, ABSA members are immersed in an environment that emphasizes dedication, diligence, perseverance, and communication.

    • Camping Trip

The ABSA Camping Trip is a major annual event where over 100 members gather at Windy Point Park for a day of food, games, and s’mores. It’s a key opportunity for new and returning members to build friendships and create lasting memories.

    • EOS Banquet

Our End-of-Semester Banquets are highly anticipated events where members enjoy decorations, food, and entertainment. The EOS Committee organizes the celebration, recognizing graduating seniors, presenting awards, and highlighting the semester’s best moments. It’s a meaningful way to commemorate the community’s shared experiences.

    • IM Sports

ABSA members can participate in intramural sports for free, with offerings like flag football, volleyball, basketball, and softball varying by interest. These games foster community spirit as members come together to compete and cheer. Recently, ABSA teams have won several IM championships in flag football and basketball.

    • Family Program
The Family Program sets ABSA apart by pairing groups of upperclassmen as “Big Sibs” who mentor and support “Little Sibs.” Alumni often credit the program for fostering lasting friendships and continued involvement. Families compete for “Family of the Year” through outings and events like Thanksgiving Potluck, Family Olympics, and Iron Chef.

    • Socials

ABSA socials provide a relaxed setting for members to connect, bond, and explore UT and Austin together. Past events have included picnics at Mount Bonnell, field days at Zilker Park, boat parties, ice skating, and bowling.

  • ABSA is deeply connected to the Austin community, contributing over 460 hours of volunteer service annually through weekly events. We also host philanthropic activities, like sports tournaments, to raise funds for those in need.

    • Volunteering Events*

ABSA actively engages with the University and Austin communities through diverse philanthropic partnerships, fostering member involvement both on and off campus. We also offer corporate sponsors opportunities to partner with us on volunteering events, creating meaningful community impact together.

Since 2007, we’ve partnered with Keep Austin Beautiful to maintain a half-mile stretch of Guadalupe Street with quarterly cleanups. Recently, we raised $5,000 with Water to Thrive to fund a well in Africa, providing access to clean drinking water.

    • Faculty Relations

In addition to partnering with local non-profits, ABSA hosts Faculty Appreciation Week to thank McCombs and UT faculty for their support. The week includes lounge decorations, handwritten notes, and free meals and goodie bags.

    • Feed Your Mind

ABSA hosts Feed Your Mind, UT’s largest food giveaway, each semester to support students during exam week. The event serves over 800 students with generous donations from local and national food vendors, including Chipotle, Amy’s Ice Creams, Poppi, Grimaldi’s, Bubbl’r, Cabo Bobs, and Jamba Juice. It also offers vendors a chance to showcase their offerings to the student body.

    • Charity of the Year

Each year, ABSA members vote on a non-profit to support and raise awareness for across the UT community. In 2018–2019, we donated nearly $2,000 to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) through events like Dodge for a Cause, Mario Kart Tournament, and Friendly Feud.

Past charity partners include: Doctors Without Borders, Dress for Success, Inside Books, NAMI, Pencils of Promise, Project HOPE, Water to Thrive, Ronald McDonald House, Settlement Home for Children, Super Hero Kids, The Winners, and Well Aware.
